Biography

Barbara’s professional travel writing and editing career began in 1990 with the California Office of Tourism (aka California Travel & Tourism Commission). She was publications director for the California Official State Visitor’s Guide & Travel Planner, California Official State Map, and VisitCalifornia.com Web site.

She provided editorial and creative direction on scores of tourism publications including California Celebrations, California Drives, and Golden California and California Travel Ideas (quarterly magazines). She has written a variety of feature articles including: “California’s Iron Horses are Still on Track,” “Ahh, Spas…A Very Nice Feeling,” “Have a Whale of Good Time,” “California Waterfalls,” and “Anacapa! Who Says it’s Not for Kids?”

Recognized for her extensive knowledge of California travel, she has represented California on travel media press trips and familiarization tours, and at travel trade and consumer shows, media events and conferences. After 16 years with California Travel & Tourism Commission, Barbara is now pursuing her passion for California travel as a freelance writer and editor.

Barbara graduated cum laude from California State University, Sacramento with a BA in Communications Studies. She is a member of the Outdoor Writers Association of California, Bay Area Travel Writers, California Watchable Wildlife Committee, and Sierra Business Council.
